”Be still, and know that I am God!”
-Psalm 46:10
A few days ago I was out running errands and finished my outing with what I thought would be a quick trip to the grocery store. H-E-B was crazy busy with all the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving shoppers! By the time I got back home I felt so anxious and overwhelmed and knew I still had a million things still left to do. Laundry that needed to be done, floors that needed to be vacuumed and mopped, dishes that needed to be put away…and in that moment my anxious and overwhelmed heart began to feel so very grateful and happy.
I began to think of all the family time that would be had over Thanksgiving and other family that I would get to see in a few weeks for Christmas! The Holy Spirit quickly shifted my mindset from this hurried anxiousness to a quieted gratefulness. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in checking things off my to-do list and planning for future moments that I forget to slow down and just be the moment. My husband has this saying that he tells me and my daughter quite often, “Be where your feet are!”
We live in a society that glamorizes the busyness of life and we often forget to “stop and smell the roses” and to truly just be where our feet are.
Today’s Bible verse is the perfect reminder to us as we head into the busiest, most wonderful season of all! In all the stories I have read from the Bible and all the sermons I have heard, Jesus was never too busy or in a hurry. He was always focused on the present moment, not a single worry about the next.
We can be still, because He is active. We can rest, because He is working on our behalf.
This little blip in my day really helped remind me to slow down this Holiday season and soak it all in.
Enjoy all seventeen takes of those family pictures!
Enjoy baking with your kids, even if it’s messier and takes a while longer!
Get up a little earlier to visit with your family!
Don’t worry about the cleaning and the laundry (it’ll still be there, don’t worry!)
Blast your favorite music on that trip back home!
Don’t fret over the floors not being spotless, no one will notice - I promise!
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.
So while you’re with your loved ones this week, be sure to take a moment to look at all the goodness that surrounds you and take a mental snapshot of it all, because that is what a blessing looks like.

REFLECT
In all the hustle and bustle that Thanksgiving week brings, take a moment to just be still…and thankful.
PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me that I can be still and rest because You are working on my behalf. As I go about my day, please keep reminding me that it’s okay to slow down and enjoy being in the moment that You’ve prepared for me, even amongst all life's uncertainty. Please calm my spirit and my heart as I go about my daily tasks and guide me in all that I do. Please watch over me and my loved ones this week.
In Jesus name I pray.
Amen.
