Masterpieces 10.30.24

”He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

About a year ago or so after a church service, I became infatuated with disco balls. During the sermon our pastor (Dr. Ed Newton a.k.a. Pastor Ed!) was preaching about how “God Takes Broken Pieces and Makes Masterpieces,"  and the statement immediately made me think of disco balls. Disco balls are made of many small broken mirror-like pieces, all strategically placed together to create a disco ball that when a light hits it, the most beautiful reflections of light dance across the room it's in.

You see, the thing is,  I'm a lot like a disco ball. I've been broken down and torn apart in the ways I tried to navigate life on my own, always doing what I thought was best. Always trying to be strong on my own.  Always trying to find life, love, happiness and meaning in things that always left me feeling alone, depressed, lost, anxious and empty. No matter how hard I tried, I never got anywhere. But it was during these times of sadness, emptiness and brokenness that all I truly had left was God. That's when I gave up and gave in. I gave up on trying to do things my way, and gave in to allowing God to be in control.

After all the hurt, pain and heartbreaks that life had put me through, I was finally able to see God beginning to mend my heart, my mind, my soul and my life. If it weren't for all the trials, tribulations, pain, suffering and brokenness that I went through, then God wouldn't have been able to create His masterpiece. 

Sometimes it takes falling apart to fall into place.

What heartbreaks, brokenness and hurts do you need to lay down at the feet of Jesus so He can make you into His masterpiece?

Are there things you can look back on in your life that may have been broken pieces that are now masterpieces?

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word and for not letting the hurt and brokenness I have experienced define me. Thank you for forgiving me and healing me. Thank you for taking my broken pieces and making me into Your masterpiece. I ask that you continue to be with me in all that I do…and to let the pieces of my disco ball be a reflection of your grace and mercy.
