Eagerly Wait 11.06.24

”I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than the watchmen wait for the morning, more than the watchmen for the morning.”

-Psalm 130:5-6

Each week I write the devotional after praying and hearing from the Holy Spirit. I like to call them my “God pings!” But this week I was struggling to hear from Him on what to share. Sure, I could pull something out of my sleeve and write about it, but I always want to share what God wants me to…I just received my God ping and it's 9PM CST.

God is never late, He is ALWAYS right on time.

Tonight, like many Americans, I caught myself constantly refreshing my internet browser to show the updated electoral map, eagerly waiting to see what new changes awaited me as the page refreshed…what would it show? Is the candidate I'm rooting for leading? What does the future of our country look like?! So many questions and worrisome thoughts flooded my mind.

And then, in the midst of my frantic refreshing of the electoral map, God pinged me. I sat here EAGERLY and anxiously waiting to see the updates and in that moment He reminded me that instead of eagerly and anxiously awaiting an update for a political candidate, perhaps I should be EAGERLY seeking Him…and refreshing my Bible app instead. So often my focus is on things that may not be meaningless, but may be less meaningful than others. I don't know about you, but if I spent as much time reading my Bible and praying verses worrying or anxiously refreshing an internet browser then maybe my mind, soul and spirit would be more calm and at peace. What an incredible and amazing world it would be if we all spent more time focusing on God, reading our Bible and time in prayer than worldly worries.

God already knows who will win this election, He knows what I will have for lunch tomorrow and He knows where my life will be 7 years from now. Nothing surprises Him, nothing catches Him off guard, nothing will shake or rattle Him. He is the same yesterday, today, tomorrow and forever. As I clicked to refresh the electoral map that last time, I had such a profound sense of peace and calm come over me knowing that when I lay my head down at night, He will still be in control.

Evil will not prevail. Jesus has already won.

REFLECT

Think about the things that weigh on your mind, instead of worrying about them, pray about them. Easier said than done, I know! But whenever those thoughts creep into your mind, immediately pray about them!

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this wonderful country that I get to live in and for our freedom. I ask you to please be with all of our  government officials and guide their steps and directions as they lead our great nation. Please help me take my worries and had them over to you…and help me to eagerly seek You and Your word.

In Jesus name I pray.

Amen.
